Here’s Kit yesterday wearing her Mum’s vintage dress… STS_176_2

And last night The Social Outfit team had a board meeting. Check out Sarah… her dress is from a social enterprise working with African communities in France. Gorgeous! And *bless* the gang for always being willing for me to take photos; I just love showing you how many there of us involved and how hard we are working…

Show/Tell/Share: As I watch more and more of Parks and Recreation I become increasingly convinced that there’s some *gold* lessons to learn from Leslie Knope’s approach to work and making a difference in her community …

So when she had something to say about rings, I stood up and took notice. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a lover, not a fighter – I’d never actually plan on “tearing” anyone up with my jewellery (and, of course, Leslie is deliberately being humorous too: she’s a peace-maker at heart). The thing is, people often comment to me about my big-ring-love, and how ‘useful’ they’d be in a fight, so I couldn’t resist the chance to put me and Knope side-by-side on this one …

My Love Knuckles… so you can see the rings better! …

Tell: Tatty Devine earrings and cockatoo ring, vintage 1980s Diane Freis silk top, black and white necklace from op shop, beaded necklace handmade, Easton Pearson silk dress from op shop, Kmart leggings, Fluevog shoes.

Share: I hope you know by now that I like to keep you updated with *tidbits* and stories about what keeps me busy each day; especially in relation to The Social Outfit. But on some days, and in some weeks, it feels like all I have to say is, “Head down, doing paperwork. Head down, doing planning.” This week feels a bit like that. And that sounds a bit boring to share, really… But, like a teacher who once trained me said, ‘You can’t take young people to Disneyland every day, Jackie, otherwise it holds no meaning’…

… So instead of dwelling on that too long, let’s take a quick close up look at this 1980s silk *gem* by Diane Freis. Chris – a regular ShowTellShare follower, and family friend – introduced me to Diane Freis when she found me a two-piece-1980s-divine-outfit in an op shop in Manly years ago (worn here and here). I’ve never looked back, and I now LOVE Diane and her crazy-colour-designs. So thanks, Chris! xo

Show/Share: Each day, celebrating another step ahead… Today’s big news is that we now legally exist, for *real*! That means The Social Outfit is registered as a Not-For-Profit organisation in NSW. Next stop, getting charitable status! We’re a sister organisation to The Social Studio, and we have exactly the same purpose: to provide education and employment opportunities to people from refugee communities, and to celebrate young refugee’s talent and creativity…

A *BIG* thanks to Meredith Turnbull for handling the process of our incorporation; so lovely to have a seasoned professional in both Not-For-Profits and social enterprise overseeing that all the paperwork is in tip-top-order! xo

Now to find out more, check out our latest news, in my favourite format, A Comic Newsletter:

And you know me, I always do *love* some comic book creativity xo xo…

Share: Just a quick post, as I’m working at my university job today, and need to get cracking. I did want to take a moment however to *THANK YOU* so much for all the lovely comments about my newsletter update. I’m so glad you liked it and you got that it is about me being creative and giving information in a different, fun way. As you know, I really want to see The Social Studio set up in Sydney – and this was my own small way of sharing that hope. So ‘woot, woot!’ for you! And, because the age of commenting can now be across a multitude of social platforms, I just wanted to share with you a couple more encouraging comments from supporters:

“It is a great newsletter. I can’t remember the last time I read a newsletter from top to bottom!”

“Love the newsletter you sent through, very quirky.”

“BEST. NEWSLETTER. EVER. !!!”

There were plenty of wonderful words, and I thank you each and every one. You see, you guys are like my new Tatty Devine earring from eBay; it’s based on a street sign from Japan (we got a photo when we were there last time, see below). By holding my hand, and being a support, you help me do better! OK sure, maybe a bit sappy, but I don’t care!! xo

Share: Did you see that on Channel 10′s The Circle program yesterday, they featured The Social Studio in their fashion section? It was all about up-cycling clothing and eco fashion. My favourite bit was when one of the hosts says something like, ‘I’ve visited their store, The Social Studio’s stuff is amazing’. And she’s so *right*! xo

Show:

Tell: Glasses from op-shop, earrings from Santa Barbara, necklace from op shop, purse necklace from Berlin flea market, TS dress, Diane Freis skirt worn as dress (from op shop), Estilo belt, Underground Creepers from ASOS on sale, rings from Italy.

Share: I arrived last night in Sydney with enough time to make it to a dear friends 40th birthday. It felt just the right occasion to bring out my new Underground Creepers for the first time. They certainly proved popular!

They’re my first ASOS purchase and one I thought long and hard about; justifying in my mind the distance and cost. Still, I’ve been eyeing off Fluevog Brothel Creepers for over a year now, and haven’t been able to find a pair that quite suited, so when I stumbled across these, I decided they’d suit the bill. So far, so *good*.

And my rings from Italy: the two plastic ones from Rome and the silver one from Florence. I hope to treasure these pieces for years.

Happy Sunday to you all, xo.
