Share: Wow… The things I find myself doing in the pursuit of making The Social Outfit happen in Sydney. Take today for example…

In this outfit,

P1040116

At one point, I was standing in an elevator, talking straight to a professional camera-man, pitching The Social Outfit concept in just 45 seconds. Do you know how quick that is?! “Hello, my name is Jackie, and I’d *love* The Social Outfit to happen…” and BAM! 45 seconds is up! Plus, talking to a camera is REALLY hard. And then, a person who works inside the building got in the lift with me too while we were recording live – I don’t think he had any idea why I was standing in a work elevator talking to a camera crew. Heaven knows what the video ended up looking like! One thing I do know: I sure did try my best.

You see, today was my Vodafone Foundation ‘World of Difference’ interview. I’m lucky enough to reach the Top 10 this year, and *FINGERS CROSSED* this time we get it. Honestly, what a ‘world of difference‘ this support would make! A BIG step closer to opening our doors.

Naturally, too, I was wearing The Social Studio for such an important event. And, does my dress look a little familiar perhaps? That’s right, this is the dress Hawanatu showcased in our November 2012 runway show

This gem is made with vintage fabric, and I simply love the design of these The Social Studio dresses: so comfortable, so easy to wear. A worthwhile purchase for me!

We had so many great people offer to be involved in our workshops, and I’m so pleased that we have on offer a great range of workshops of fashion-related fun. Thanks Nicole, Catharine and Soraya! And soon, we’ll all get to watch the genius-creativity of young people from refugee backgrounds… Exciting!

Show/Tell/Share: Hello regional Warburton; thank you for your warm village welcome, and especially your Vinnie’s op shop… (photos of *finds* for another day)…

Then next, on our road trip today, we next headed to Bruno’s Art & Sculptures Garden in Marysville. After the February 2009 ‘Black Saturday’ bushfires so much of Marysville was destroyed; so being able to see something like Bruno (and his supporters) rebuild his artist garden, studio and home is amazing. A wee little owl sculpture took my fancy in the garden:

Day 3/10, 9 September: Ken Done glasses, Wa-Nyika earrings, vintage necklace from Berlin market, Kmart skivvy, Fletcher Jones tartan skirt, socks borrowed from my Step-Dad (I needed green!), Fluevog shoes.

Day 2/10, 8 September: Glasses from op shop, Wa-Nyika earrings, vintage necklace from op shop, Ken Done vintage t-shirt from eBay (with original tags!), Kmart skivvy, Levis jeans, Happy Socks, Fluevog shoes.

Tell: Tatty Devine paperclip necklace and bracelet, Suitmaster ‘Best in Ladies Suits Sydney’ jacket from op shop, Uniqlo skivvy from Japan, Fletcher Jones tartan skirt from op shop, socks from Japan, Fluevog shoes (on sale, from SoleDevotion Melbourne).

Share: I was saying quite recently on ShowTellShare’s Facebook page that I would wear tartan almost exclusively if I could (with notable exceptions of The Social Studio and Ken Done, of course). Today kind of proves the point, I think!

Now down to business: meetings today with the Bread & Butter project (the new social enterprise of Bourke Street Bakery, working with people from refugee backgrounds in baking and food production training), and then onto a planning meeting with Antonia and David from our Sydney Outfit to keep progressing the Sydney business plans. Working together to make this fashion social enterprise happen, one day at a time…

I had a very important meeting today, so naturally, I donned on The Social Studio, prepared as best I could, and tried to put my best foot forward. Time will tell… xo
