Last week, I went down to Melbourne for Social Traders‘ ‘Social Enterprise Masters Conference 2016‘. It was also a chance to see family, friends and hang out down south.

Here was Sunday-Lunch-Day-With-The-Family…

Show: Have you seen our short film of The Social Outfit‘s recent ‘Colour Chameleon‘ project? As I’ve been saying to people, I’m so pleased it captures the positive spirit and creativity in the room that night. And what a *wonderful* example of people coming together to celebrate the skills and styles of diverse communities here in Sydney …

I also realised I could probably find an image or two that better shows off the *ace* fabric-combination skirt Emma-Kate made for me of all the designer’s work; from top to bottom: Ken Done, Linda Jackson, Dragstar (Celia Morris) and Nina Maya.

Tell: Glasses from op shop, re-purposed earrings from Shag Melbourne, Tatty Devine necklace, singlet from op shop, The Social Outfit ‘Colour Chameleon’ skirt, Spin Dance petticoat, Jonathan Aston tights, Fluevog boots, 1980s gold bag from op shop. And below, also wearing my own Carla Zampatti silk jacket to pay respects to our Guest of Honour at ‘Colour Chameleon’.

From left to right: me, Oboya, Mogahid and Opia. These young people are part of the *amazing* Afro Contemporary Youth Dance group. (I’m also so pleased that we had make-up provided by students at the Australasian College Broadway. So fun!)

Here also, our earlier short-film from our project at Fairfield High School. We start stage-two of this project next week, and will also now work with parents at the school. I’m so pleased too because many of the young people involved in stage one are staying on to gain more sewing skills, and learn more about the Australian fashion industry…

And here is me from Thursday this week. I spent the day out meeting talented people as we continue community-building and refining our work. Essentially this outfit for me was about celebrating my new-vintage 1980s Jimmy Pike ‘Desert Designs‘ cropped t-shirt. Another piece added to my *love*-collection of 1980s Australian designers; and I’m particularly pleased about the inclusion of Pike’s fashion to help represent and celebrate the *fantastic* design elements of Aboriginal artwork, as Jimmy Pike was a Walmatjarri artist from Western Australia.

Share: Season’s Greetings from me, my 1980s vintage Jimmy Pike** shirt, and the very blue and *gorgeous* Western Australia!

** I’m a keen collector of Jimmy Pike, a significant Australian artist from Walmatjarri, WA. His work is often featured as part of the 1980s Oz label, ‘Desert Designs‘. Having found this amazing shirt this year, I felt it only right to have its first showing back in WA (where we also are for some of our family holidays)…

Share: Somehow, in the moving house process, I’ve misplaced my The Social Studio silk fabric necklace… Of course, I only worked this out this morning as I ran crazily around trying to locate it, as I had a morning meeting with Rupal from &Able first up (a very interesting social venture by the way, take a look). No luck on locating the said necklace, so instead I went with The Social Studio silk dyed scarf in my hair, and wore instead this *magnificent* Jimmy Pike for Oroton vintage silk scarf. Jimmy Pike is a genius. Jenny Kee is a genius. Oh how I love Australian fashion!

Meeting Rupal was lovely, and I have more meetings this afternoon. Slowly, slowly, I work to get the word out about the opportunity of The Social Studio coming to Sydney out there. Let’s hope this transforms into financial support for our social enterprise venture too… of course, I want The Social Studio to one day be as loved as our 1980s Australian fashion icons of Jimmy Pike, Jenny Kee, Linda Jackson, and Ken Done… knowing as well, that The Social Studio is *doing good in a fashion*
