Share:  Last night I attended an event called, ‘Social entreprenuers: the face of social change in Australia’ hosted by Swinburne Philanthropy Alumni, with The School for Social Entrepreneurs and Macquarie Group Foundation. It was a perfect opportunity to meet SSE’s new CEO, Celia Hodson and Julian Lee from FoodConnect, and to reconnect with SSE fellow Michael Maxwell.

What did I take away from the night? A meeting soon with Julian, and the insight that we just need to keep plugging away. So with that in mind, I’m off for a busy day of The Social Outfit work (post with today’s outfit to follow later)… xo

Share: My 89th post since I started this blog; and that makes it about six months since I started in earnest working on The Social Studio in Sydney plan. Time passing like this makes me well aware at how long the progress is to try and successfully set up a social enterprise venture. Often I want to come here and tell you that I’ve had a win, or that we’ve jumped ahead. But the truth is, sometimes instead what is required is just hard work, over a period of time, to build a solid business case. And even then, it’s not like this is a certainty. Proving ‘need’ alone is not always enough. You know how much I’d *love* a version of The Social Studio here in Sydney, right? What an opportunity! So while I keep plugging away (with significant expertise from others), I hope at least my clothing can bring you a *little* bit of colour and fun as a joyful distraction, as it does for me… xo

Show:

Tell: The Social Studio silk scarf, Esprit skivvy from op shop, Barry Joseph dress from op shop, Sportscraft belt, Yoshi Jones skirt, Fluevog boots.

Share: This is yesterday’s outfit posted today. It shows how much I’m liking the whole double clothing layer thing: double-dress, double shirts, double-leotard, and double-skirts in this outfit (sort of)… ah, the things that keep me entertained!

So have a great day, on this auspicious 1$Day. I’ll be making my donation. Then I’ll keep plugging away at this The Social Studio business plan for Sydney. xo

Show/Share: Another day, another meeting with an *ever so talented* Sydney Outfit member! Today I met up with David Ajak Ajang. Ajak and I have known each other since 2006, and over the years we’ve stayed in touch, and where possible, worked together on a few projects.

I’m so pleased Ajak is a part of our social project to develop The Social Studio model here in Sydney, as Ajak has a *wealth* of experience working in community development, especially with Sydney’s diverse refugee and African communities. Ajak’s more detailed biography will be up soon on our member page. Plus, as we caught up in Auburn today, it meant we got to munch on Mado’s fantastic food, and I even had a spare five minutes to sneak into the Auburn Vinnies (and found op-shop-gold, to show be shown soon). Lovely!

And as for me fashion-wise, I’m all stripes and culottes for a working day… And really, who doesn’t *love* 1980s culottes?!!

Tell: Vintage jewellery from op shops, Carla Zampatti silk jacket from op shop, Sportscraft skivvy, Estilo belt, Leesa culottes from op shop, Simon de Winter socks, Fluevog shoes.

Show:

Tell: Skivvy from Kmart, Jenny Kee ‘Kee Art Australia’ dress from eBay, Sportscraft belt, Jonathan Aston stockings (blue), red stockings underneath, Happy Socks, Fluevogs.

Share: If ever there was an argument for publicly displaying your passions and having a bit of fun, we’ll today I got my reward. I know this statement is completely obtuse, but I’m hoping to share the odd, and small-ly fun news soon. It’s hilarious! Will keep you posted, I promise. What I can tell you is these two things:

  1. Take your ‘wins’ where you can, and
  2. High-heels and socks – now there’s a gift!

Show:

Tell: Photios Bros vintage earrings, Sussan skivvy from op shop, Zzitto shirt from op shop, Sportscraft belt, skirt from op shop, Uniqlo leggings from Japan, Fluevogs.

Share: Today I met with Sophie Bartho who is the founder of the 1$ Day campaign. Sophie and I have been meeting up over the past few weeks to talk through the challenges and successes of starting new ventures which have a *social good* at their core. Spending quality time with Sophie is great, and by talking with her, I am reminded of how we can each learn from one another when we’re open to it. I certainly know that come Wednesday 25 July this year, I’ll be donating to her charity.

And in fashion related matters, this shirt is another *hilarious* example of 1980s fashion thinking: just check out the oversize nature of this shirt – it’s almost like a kimono / robe – and yet it’s labelled a size 10! Go figure. Then again, the colour-pop action this top achieves can’t be questioned… and it even has sequins on the back, around a stiletto. Priceless.

Show:

Tell: LaFont glasses, Tatty Devine bird rings on necklace, vintage Sportscraft dress from Penrith op shop, Fluevogs.

Share: Today I’m going to the Thanksgiving Service to celebrate the life of Steve Lawrence. Steve was a founding member, and on the board of The School for Social Entrepreneurs. I worked with him for over a year in 2008-09. Then in March this year, attending an SSE Graduation, Steve and I caught up, and this photo below was taken. We actually had quite a funny conversation at the time, and I’m really glad now I have this photo; it’s lovely to look at memories like this and think about our shared histories and shared learning, together.

Sally McGeoch, me and Steve Lawrence.
