Last week, I went down to Melbourne for Social Traders‘ ‘Social Enterprise Masters Conference 2016‘. It was also a chance to see family, friends and hang out down south.

Here was Sunday-Lunch-Day-With-The-Family…

Some stuff I’m wearing: Glasses from Dresden, Basketball earrings from Haus of Dizzy, Uniqlo skivvy, The Social Outfit ballet top, swing dress and flares (all made from Seafolly lycra), Nike sneakers.

Show: Here’s some photos of us working this Wednesday with four of the five women who are taking part in our fashion training at Fairfield High School. Like I think I’ve said previously, these women can already sew and are really interested in honing their skills, and working together as a group. Emma was showing everyone a pattern for dressmaking, and I’m so pleased to be using the fabric donated to us by Celia Morris at Dragstar. Watching the skills of these women, and their enthusiasm, is very exciting (especially for someone like me who really can only basically sew)! Plus, I’ve always been drawn to the idea of using people’s own talents to increase their sense of community and contribution in a new environment.

STS_227_6

We’ve also started working with young people again too, many of whom were in our first sewing program. Things were just so boisterous and busy that I didn’t get a moment to grab our photo together!

And here’s my own Wednesday outfit…

P1040896

Tell: Tatty Devine earrings and rings, handmade necklaces, Nicola Waite jacket from op shop, The Social Studio silk skirt as dress, Saba belt, retail tights, Fluevog boots.

STS_227_3

Plus, some more outfits to share. This is Sunday last week, a fun, party day for the Hawaiian First Officer and myself. I decided* that my theme was ‘animal menagerie’ and celebrated the weekend with some vintage animalistic touches… (*And by “decided” I mean it just sort of happened as I was putting on pieces, and combining the fashion together.)

IMG_2459

Tell: Lea Stein vintage earrings and brooch, Studibaker Hawk jacket from op shop, The Social Studio shirt, Ken Done vintage bag, handmade skirt from vintage fabric from the ‘Fifties Fair’, Spin Dance petticoat, retail tights and socks, Fluevog boots.

STS_227_5

Detail: Tatty Devine ‘name neckalce’ and necklace from the Norman Lindsay Gallery. Although hard to see, I’m also wearing Gummy Bears on the white double-ring, a sparkling fox ring, and the large ring (that’s actually a vintage lipstick holder from an op shop) has a wee little bird on it, of course!

STS_227_4

Then Saturday’s gear was about my pink denim flares and vintage bathing suit top worn as a singlet. xo.

STS_227_2

Tell: Handmade earrings and necklaces, second-hand top gifted to me, ‘Shannon Freeville’ Made in Australia vintage swimsuit top from op shop, pink denim flares made by Jodie from Maurer & Strange, Trippen shoes.

Chain necklace, worn as bracelet gifted by Mum from Germany.

And here’s me yesterday, visiting the White Rabbit Gallery in Chippendale. This gallery comprises of a significant private collection of contemporary Chinese artworks; now open to the public, and free. It’s fantastic and worthy of a look-see.

I found this artwork by Xu Zhen particularly tactile and inviting. With over 70kgs of paint in the piece it appeals to my sense of indulgence and overdoing things!

Show: Look who I got to catch up with in person! How *great* it was to spend time with Grace and Ajak yesterday. And look how excited Ajak is about wearing his The Social Studio clothing!

IMG_1239

The Social Outfit had the absolute *pleasure* of Grace’s company in town for the day, yesterday. We had some important meetings to attend, and I can’t tell you how lovely it is to talk face to face with Grace, and hear all about the ongoing great work at The Social Studio. Honestly what is happening in Collingwood, Melbourne is as creative and inspiring as it was when I first met up with them three years ago! And the ongoing support The Social Studio shows to our team up here in Sydney is so significant.

Grace and I also met with one of our other Board members, designer Nina Maya, and the two of them talked a lot about the fabric digital printing The Social Studio now has up and running. Amazing possibilities! And check out Grace’s digital print scarf; designed by one of the students (top photo shows it better).

Having someone like Nina with her design expertise is very exciting for us as we keep developing our own work here in Sydney.

And below is me, dressed up with a distinctly ‘1980s-business-feel’, and wearing The Social Studio of course!

Share: We were off to Tilly’s Naming Day today. And, as the First Hawaiian Officer says that Tilly is like a little spirited tiger, I was inspired to wear my Tatty Devine tiger necklace as a tribute to her, and all that she can be in this world… She’s lovely!
