Sunday: A beautiful autumn day in Sydney…

To have some fun, and celebrate my birthday…

Yesterday we spent part of the day checking out some fabulous art at the Art Gallery of NSW. Not surprisingly, I responded *well* to the more colourful works…

It’s like looking into a mirror…

These artworks photographed are by Ugo Rondinone.

Artwork by Sol LeWitt.

And *naturally* I was celebrating the day of my birth by wearing some new, vintage Ken Done. This 1980s shirt had found it’s way to Italy, when I then bought it back recently via eBay to its Sydney home, probably some 10 or 20 years later. I just love it! And, of course, I was also wearing some handmade work from Abuk at The Social Studio.

STS 195-1

Tell: Handmade earrings, Uniqlo skivvy, Ken Done vintage 1980s shirt, brooch gifted, necklace gifted for my birthday, vintage belt from UK, Tatty Devine bracelet, handmade bracelet made by Abuk from The Social Studio, ‘Diamonds Ain’t a Girls Best Friend’ ring from UK, Sportsgirl skirt from op shop, Jonathan Aston stockings, Happy Socks, Fluevog boots, and Tatty Devine balloon leather necklace.

STS 195-2

Artwork by Ugo Rondinone, adjusted here by the *spectacular* Hawaiian First Officer and me.

And then, because I’ve been a little ‘light on’ with outfit posts recently, here’s some from the last few days…

Saturday: An ongoing love with secondhand 1980s Escada…

Tell: Handmade earrings, Kmart skivvy, vintage Escada shirt, Anthea Crawford skirt from op shop, Jonathan Aston tights, tights underneath from Japan and Fluevog boots.

STS 195-3

Tell: Earrings from op shop, Saba skivvy, Leona Edmiston dress from op shop, Tatty Devine cat bangle as necklace, Estilio belt, Sportsgirl tights as gift, borrowed socks from the HFO, Fluevog shoes, Tatty Devine balloon bag, gifted ‘Frida Kahlo’ bag.

Just me enjoying my mis-matched, but still matching earrings!

STS 195-4

Share: With family in town, we headed off to the Blue Mountains for the day. Love a bit a *spectacular* scenery, and love *dodgy-retro* motel signs just about as much…

Tell: Ben Sherman shirt ‘borrowed full-time’ from the First Hawaiian Officer, singlet from op shop, ‘Paris Blues’ 1980s denim skirt from op shop, Sportscraft belt, vintage leather bag gifted by Tamara, boots from the op shop. Tatty Devine rings and sheriff badge as necklace.

Plus I couldn’t resist the opportunity to bring some of my own bird-life on our day trip…

Hope you had a lovely weekend xo

Share: This was me on Monday. And, oh how I love me some 1980s Anthea Crawford jackets… it’s those short sleeves that makes them so-SO-80s-appealing!

Share: New Ken Done frames! I think you can see I was clearly excited about taking these *1980’s-oversize-spectacle-gems* out for their first-wearing-day, and attired myself accordingly with joy…

… BirdMonkey, I partially blame you for yesterday’s outfit, re-inspired as I was after seeing those early 1980s pictures of Nicole K. and her mates in jumpsuits! (See comments here.) Love! xo

Tell: Ken Done for CanTeen headscarf, Ken Done glasses from eBay (for a bargain! Woot, woot!), earrings from an op shop, Tatty Devine necklace, retail singlets, ‘Easy St.’ jumpsuit from Newtown Red Cross op shop, retail socks, Fluevog boots (oh so 1980s Electric Blue!). Jenny Kee vintage bag.

Show/Tell/Share: As I watch more and more of Parks and Recreation I become increasingly convinced that there’s some *gold* lessons to learn from Leslie Knope’s approach to work and making a difference in her community …

So when she had something to say about rings, I stood up and took notice. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a lover, not a fighter – I’d never actually plan on “tearing” anyone up with my jewellery (and, of course, Leslie is deliberately being humorous too: she’s a peace-maker at heart). The thing is, people often comment to me about my big-ring-love, and how ‘useful’ they’d be in a fight, so I couldn’t resist the chance to put me and Knope side-by-side on this one …

My Love Knuckles… so you can see the rings better! …

Tell: Tatty Devine earrings and cockatoo ring, vintage 1980s Diane Freis silk top, black and white necklace from op shop, beaded necklace handmade, Easton Pearson silk dress from op shop, Kmart leggings, Fluevog shoes.

Share: Season’s Greetings from me, my 1980s vintage Jimmy Pike** shirt, and the very blue and *gorgeous* Western Australia!

** I’m a keen collector of Jimmy Pike, a significant Australian artist from Walmatjarri, WA. His work is often featured as part of the 1980s Oz label, ‘Desert Designs‘. Having found this amazing shirt this year, I felt it only right to have its first showing back in WA (where we also are for some of our family holidays)…

Tell: Glasses from op shop, earrings from Japan, vintage Jimmy Pike shirt from eBay, Oroton belt from op shop, Sportsgirl skirt from op shop, Black Milk leggings, retail shoes.

Share: One *good* thing about sitting in a holding pattern on our flight from Sydney to Melbourne for over an hour on Friday night was that I got to watch more and more of Mike Nichols’ 1988 US classic, Working Girl

And, as you can see, it was from the 1980s eyeshadow that I took *most* inspiration for my Saturday’s outfit!

Tell: Earrings from Japan, Dragstar dress, Oroton belt from op shop, handmade silver necklace gifted by Iain, robot necklace from Young Bloods Markets, Black Milk leggings, Birkenstock sandals.

Show/Share: According to the official ‘Sydney Weekenders CBD Stare-O-Meter’, today’s outfit rates *very* highly. I’m thinking its because I look a little like your average Sunday Female Drag Queen. That, or according to the *joy* on many 5-year olds faces, a Sunday Clown. Either way, I’m pretty happy. xo

Tell: Beads from op shops, handmade earrings, Uniqlo skivvy, gifted second hand 1980s dress (given by Eliza because she thought it looked like Ken Done), vintage belt from UK, Ken Done handmade skirt, Happy Socks, Trippen shoes from Berlin outlet.

ShowTellShare One Hundred and Thirty-Four

Tell: Earrings from Santa Barbara, necklace from op shop, 1980s ‘ARC’ dress gifted to me by Althea, Sportscraft belt, cuff from London, retail stockings, Fluevog shoes.

Share: I find the holding down of two jobs (being, The Social Outfit as a volunteer, and my university work to pay the rent) is mostly OK, until you get those months when both jobs get busy. November is that month for me. So like any *good* strategist, I’m going to put on some ‘armour’ (in my case, this *lovely* 1980s shiny dress), and start working my way through the work bit by bit, by bit…

… For the next two days I’m attending the last module I need to complete my Certificate IV ‘Training & Assessment’ qualification. It means I can become a TAFE qualified assessor, which would be *super* helpful for The Social Outfit (because The Social Studio model is all about TAFE training and qualifications).

So let’s get this month cracking, and let’s get me some TAFE know-how! xo

Show/Tell/Share: Did someone say 1980s cocktail party for charity?! …

Last night was the 30th birthday of Twenty10. I worked there in the early 2000s, and so it was lovely for my friends and I to get a little bit *dolled up* and celebrate all of Twenty10’s good work.

Twenty10’s tagline is: “A Place to be You,” and as you can see, I took that as an invitation to be the *me* of BIG hair, BIG shoes and a 1980s LOUD outfit! I’ve had this Parisian number in the wardrobe for years (found in an op shop, of course) and decided last night was just the right time to get it out and style it up…

It’s so funny because this 2-piece suit is all plain “Business at the Back”, and then “Party at the Front”…

Tell: Earrings from UK, Tatty Devine necklace, ‘Romeo Pour Juliette’ Paris made 2-piece suit from op shop, Saba belt, fingerless leather gloves from Florence, Demonia boots,

Iain and David looking fancy…

Here’s Bec rockin’ the pinks and gold…

(I gifted Bec this op-shop-found vintage dress a while back, and *love* that it’s gone to a welcoming home).

I also love that my friend and hairdresser David at Bedrock took my request for big 1980s hair seriously yesterday. Thanks to crimping, teasing and a whole-lot-of-hairspray, I think he achieved some expert frizz action!

Good times xo

Show/Share: I’m not sure what to say other then I *really* do still love Ken Done fashion and colour. The evidence is clear, I think… I hope… xo

Tell: Ken Done glasses, Wa-Nyika earrings, scarf gifted by my sister-in-law, Dangerfield skivvy dress (bought when I was all of 19, I think), Ken Done cardigan, belt from op shop, Ken Done skirt handmade, Caledonia tights, Happy Socks, Fluevog boots.
