Almost a week of radio silence from me to you, dear readers, but that’s just because we’ve been *working so hard* to get here: The Social Outfit Pilot Project!

We’re down at The Rocks, and we’re ready to say hello to you and your friends…

From this week until Saturday 11 May, we’ll be at Shop 2.03, 140 George Street, The Rocks (Tuesdays to Sundays, 10am-5pm). Of course, we’re not doing it all alone: we’re proudly supported by our sister organisation, The Social Studio; we’ve had *fantastic* funding from the City of Sydney Community Grants Program; and our spot is thanks to the The Rocks Pop-Up initiative.

Let’s take a little tour of our space, shall we? …

We’re also running creative workshops with people from refugee backgrounds. This week is hat-making with Catherine Kelly of Embellish Atelier, and thanks to donations from Hatters Millinery Supplies. From scratch, people have been making these millenary pieces: look at the results in just a few dedicated hours!

With things being so busy, if you want to check out what’s happening on a more regular basis, good spots for information are:

In the meantime, hoping to see you at the shop (if you’re in Sydney); hoping you enjoy what we’re trying to do (if you’re further afield), and thanks as always, for showing your support as The Social Outfit  (NEW WEBSITE!) progresses each day. xo xo

And here’s me – looking exhausted, really – but living life to my fullest…

I’m too tired to tell you about the outfits in any great detail… but rest assured, naturally I’m wearing The Social Studio (leggings in picture one, *super* cape in picture two…) xo

Share: The Social Outfit eBay auction-extravaganza is getting closer and closer every day… Bargains! Ken Done! Vintage! 1980s! Doing *good*! Helping The Social Outfit! So many points of exclamation!

The auctions start closing this Saturday… Good Luck and thanks for your support! All money raised (less eBay fees) goes directly to supporting The Social Outfit xo

Here’s Kit yesterday wearing her Mum’s vintage dress… STS_176_2

And last night The Social Outfit team had a board meeting. Check out Sarah… her dress is from a social enterprise working with African communities in France. Gorgeous! And *bless* the gang for always being willing for me to take photos; I just love showing you how many there of us involved and how hard we are working…

Tell: Ken Done vintage glasses, earrings handmade by and gifted from Iain, Tatty Devine fish necklace, Jessica Dance necklace, Reg Mombassa ‘Mambo’ singlet from op shop, Saba belt, Ken Done vintage handmade skirt from eBay, tights from Japan, Fluevog boots.

Share: I have no real interest in surf wear, but I have a deep love for the art of Reg Mombassa (Chris O’Doherty). I saw a retrospective of his artwork in Sydney a few years ago and felt completely inspired by his art practice. So when I found me some vintage Reg Mombassa art via this ‘Mambo’ shirt in an op shop, I grabbed it *hard* with both hands, with no plans to let go anytime soon.

A shout out too, to darling Frances at Corpulent for our shared love of Mombassa (amongst many other things)! xo

The Social Outfit work-wise, I’m back into the swing of things (now only with what I’m calling a *stabby* appendix), with an excellent fundraising meeting with Antonia and David from our Committee last night. Progress, progress.

Show/Share: What’s this? Two people, at night, with *suspicious* bags… It’s almost as if some kind of swap is about to take place…

And it did! Here’s our board member, David Hardie having recently returned from a trip to Melbourne with a bag full of *BEAUTIFUL* new The Social Studio collections, doing the ‘handover’ to me last night. (Board member, Sarah Chisholm is ably standing by to keep an eye on me!) These pieces are for us to showcase at our event next week. I laughed because look how much I’m *gripping* onto the bag… “Let me see the outfits! Let me see what The Social Studio is lending us! How exciting!”

Thanks The Social Studio for believing in The Social Outfit, and what we want to build here in Sydney xo xo

Last night was also The Social Outfit‘s first formal board meeting. Bit by bit we’re progressing our work.

And now on to my outfit. Two interesting things happened yesterday:

1. Approximately one billion people told me at my uni job that the leggings I was wearing were “fantastic”. Seriously, that many people! And of course, these leggings are just another great example of The Social Studio‘s design and fashion work. Love!

2. A colleague also said, “You’re looking more subdued today”. Looks like I may have been hitting the colour palette on *full-blown* for a while, if the addition of some black to the wardrobe makes people think I’m looking plain!

Tell: Earrings from Shag (Melbourne), handmade necklace, possum brooch gifted by my Mum (1980s classic), fake Ken Done kookaburra brooch, pewter koala pin from op shop, Awyon skirt worn as dress from op shop, The Social Studio leggings, Lacoste sample boots.

I had a bit of an Australiana jewellery also thing happening… I’m *loving* my little possum hanging about on my necklace ‘wire’… xo

Show/Share: What a busy week, including catching up with members of the Sydney Outfit last night for a meeting:

L-R: David Hardie, Meredith Turnbull, Antonia Ruffell, and David Ajak Ajang. Grace McQuilten called in from Melbourne, and I got to catch up with Sarah Chisholm earlier in the day. It takes a team!

As well as having a meeting with the Sydney Outfit to continue with our business planning, I also met again with The Social Outfit’s own volunteer, Chloe Wilson. I’m so *excited* that I have some more hands-on help with our growing work.

Plus, another couple of meetings with professionals in the Not For Profit and fundraising sectors: seeking strategic advice as we put together our best model for having a version of The Social Studio here in Sydney. We’ve got to get it right, and that takes time.

And all this work undertaken on a 30 degree day, with me wearing socks, sandals and of course, The Social Studio!

Some lovely detail from my op-shopped Fiorucci vest:

Tell: Glasses from op shop, earrings gifted from Jenni, Tatty Devine necklace, vintage Fiorucci vest from op shop, The Social Studio silk dress gifted from Jo, stockings from Japan, Camper Sandals.

And just another quick sneak of an outfit earlier in the week, from Tuesday, because my nephew gave me the silver bracelet (which can also be worn as a necklace). Bless his ability to already spot *fun fashion* for his aunty at 8 years old! xo

Tell: Glasses from Japan, Norman Hartwell dress from op shop, Sportscraft belt, Fluevog boots.

Show: Right, we’ve got a social enterprise to *build* and develop… so thank *goodness* today I have some earrings with a useful metaphor to help with the work! Read on…

Tell: Tatty Devine earrings, necklace from op shop, Tatty Devine necklace (backwards in the shot – I didn’t notice!), ‘Lorax Original. A Division of Lady Carol’ dress from op shop, Esprit skivvy fro op shop, Saba belt stolen from the First Hawaiian Officer, Happy Socks, Fluevogs.

Share: Today I’m also introducing another important person from The Sydney Outfit.

The Sydney Outfit are the group of people helping me develop our version of The Social Studio model here. You met Antonia a few weeks ago, and here is another member, David Hardie. He’s a *gem* and here’s why:

Over a 30 year career, David has worked in government, nonprofit and philanthropy organisations, most recently at the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation and The Myer Foundation and Sidney Myer Fund. David also has extensive volunteer experience in diverse roles, including telephone counselling, refugee settlement assistance and youth mentoring. From 2008 to 2010 he helped establish and manage a successful education support program for school students from a refugee background. He is also the Founder and Director of the Slingsby Foundation.

Plus, David is a *lovely* bloke I’ve had the benefit (and pleasure) of working with on many projects for about four years now. He’s thoughtful, a straight-talker and very willing to take on a challenge. Perfect!

And just to end today’s post, a close up of my dress label. How I *love* this name. You say it out loud, and it just sounds rad. Kind of makes me want to say ‘A Division of Lady Jackie’ at the end of everything i say! xo
